Iraqi and Christian

Iraq is home to several major religions. This page is for Iraqi Christians, including those who live in Iraq and those whose families now live elsewhere. It is not a general Iraqi dating page, and it is not an interfaith service.

Iraqi Christian life includes several communities and histories. Assyrian, Chaldean, and Armenian Christians from Iraq are included without being asked to set those identities aside.

Christian communities have longstanding roots in Baghdad, Mosul, Kirkuk, Ankawa, and towns across the Nineveh Plain. These places include several churches and identities; Khuba does not treat any location as belonging exclusively to one community.

Khuba does not decide Assyrian, Chaldean, Aramean, or Syriac identity questions, or how members should describe the relationship between nationality, heritage, and church. Members describe their own cultural or ethnic identity. They also select a church family on their profile.

Church traditions among Iraqi Christians

Iraqi Christians do not all belong to the same church. Traditions commonly include the Chaldean Catholic Church, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Ancient Church of the East. Iraqi Christians may also belong to the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Syriac Catholic Church, the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Armenian Catholic Church, Protestant and Evangelical churches, Non-denominational congregations, or other Christian traditions.

On Khuba, a Chaldean Catholic, Syriac Catholic, or Armenian Catholic member would select Catholic. A member of the Assyrian Church of the East or Ancient Church of the East would select Church of the East. A Syriac Orthodox or Armenian Apostolic member would select Oriental Orthodox. A Protestant or Evangelical member would select Protestant / Evangelical. The profile records the family the member selected. It does not identify a parish, rite, or jurisdiction, and it does not confirm anyone’s practice.

Language, family, and Sunday

Arabic is widely used in daily life and in many Iraqi churches. Classical Syriac, Armenian, and other liturgical languages may also be used, depending on the church and parish. Some families speak Sureth or other languages, while diaspora churches may use English or another local language. Two people may share an Iraqi Christian background and still need to discuss which languages they hope their children will speak, how close they live to their parents, and what fasting, feast days, and parish life look like in practice.

Family is often part of how a relationship becomes a marriage, not an afterthought. That does not mean every Iraqi Christian family is the same, or that Khuba speaks for anyone’s relatives.

Iraqi Christian dating across the diaspora

Members may live in Iraq or far from it. Iraqi Christians live throughout a broad diaspora, including in the United States, Australia, Canada, Sweden, and elsewhere. Shared heritage does not remove the practical challenges of distance, visas, or different church calendars. Khuba does not promise a match in the next city or across an ocean. It gives two people a place to see the church family someone selected and to ask the questions that matter before a relationship goes further.

Marriage and the church

Shared faith is the foundation. Churches still differ on how marriage is blessed, on previous marriages, and on what they ask of a couple before a wedding.

Khuba cannot determine someone’s ecclesiastical eligibility for marriage. Members should discuss their circumstances honestly and consult their priest, pastor, or appropriate church authority.

Khuba is not an interfaith service or a general dating app. Every member must meet the same Christian, age, relationship-status, and community eligibility requirements.
