Christian traditions on Khuba

Members come from several historic Christian traditions. They share one required affirmation: Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

That affirmation is a condition of membership. It is not a verification of anyone’s faith or sincerity.

Members select one broad church family on their profile. This gives two people a starting point for discussing church background and expectations for marriage. It does not identify a parish, rite, jurisdiction, level of practice, or every detail of someone’s beliefs.

Who may join is explained on Who Khuba Is For.

How traditions appear on Khuba

When someone joins, they choose one of these affiliations:

  • Catholic
  • Eastern Orthodox
  • Oriental Orthodox
  • Church of the East
  • Protestant / Evangelical
  • Non-denominational
  • Other Christian

These are the groups used in the app. They are families of churches, not a parish directory. A Maronite or Melkite member would choose Catholic. A Coptic Orthodox or Syriac Orthodox member would choose Oriental Orthodox. A member of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch would choose Eastern Orthodox. A member of the Assyrian Church of the East would choose Church of the East.

The churches named below are common in Middle Eastern, Armenian, and Cypriot Christian life, including the diaspora. The list is not every church in the world. Khuba is not a general Orthodox or Catholic dating app.

Catholic

Catholic members include those who belong to the Latin Church and to Eastern Catholic churches. These are distinct churches even though Khuba groups them under the Catholic family for profile purposes. That grouping does not mean their liturgies, disciplines, histories, or marriage requirements are identical. The profile records the family the member named.

Latin

  • Latin Church (commonly called Roman Catholic)

Alexandrian

  • Coptic Catholic Church

Antiochian / West Syriac

  • Maronite Church
  • Syriac Catholic Church

Armenian

  • Armenian Catholic Church

Chaldean / East Syriac

  • Chaldean Catholic Church

Lebanese Christian dating across several of these churches is described on Lebanese Christian Dating. Maronite dating is described on Maronite Dating. Melkite dating is described on Melkite Dating. Chaldean dating and the Chaldean Catholic Church are described on Chaldean Dating. Jordanian Christian dating across several churches is described on Jordanian Christian Dating.

Eastern Orthodox

Eastern Orthodox members belong to the Eastern Orthodox Church. In the communities Khuba serves, that often includes:

  • Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople
  • Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East
  • Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and All Africa
  • Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem
  • Church of Cyprus

This list focuses on churches commonly represented in the communities Khuba serves and is not exhaustive. Syrian Christian dating across several churches is described on Syrian Christian Dating. Jordanian Christian dating across several churches is described on Jordanian Christian Dating.

Oriental Orthodox

Oriental Orthodox members belong to the Oriental Orthodox family of churches. In the communities Khuba serves, that often includes:

  • Armenian Apostolic Church
  • Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria
  • Syriac Orthodox Church

Coptic, Armenian, and Syriac Orthodox life each has its own history. This hub names the family. It does not collapse those communities into one identity. Coptic dating is described on Coptic Dating. Armenian dating is described on Armenian Dating. Armenian Apostolic dating is described on Armenian Apostolic Dating. Syriac Orthodox dating is described on Syriac Orthodox Dating. Egyptian Christian dating across several communities is described on Egyptian Christian Dating.

Church of the East

Church of the East members include those who belong to this tradition:

  • Assyrian Church of the East
  • Ancient Church of the East

Khuba does not use this page to decide Assyrian, Chaldean, Aramean, or Syriac identity questions. Members select a church family while their cultural or ethnic identity remains theirs to describe. Assyrian dating as a people is described on Assyrian Dating. Iraqi Christian dating across several communities is described on Iraqi Christian Dating.

Protestant / Evangelical

Members from Protestant and Evangelical churches may select Protestant / Evangelical when that best describes their church background.

Khuba is not a generic Protestant dating app. The same audience definition applies here as everywhere else.

Non-denominational

Members who do not belong to a specific denomination may select Non-denominational while remaining subject to the same Christian affirmation and eligibility requirements.

Other Christian

Members whose Christian tradition does not fit the families above may select Other Christian. The same eligibility requirements and Christian affirmation apply.

Marriage and the church

Shared faith is the foundation. Churches still differ on how marriage is blessed, on previous marriages, and on what they ask of a couple before a wedding.

Khuba cannot determine someone’s ecclesiastical eligibility for marriage. Members should discuss their circumstances honestly and consult their priest, pastor, or appropriate church authority about the requirements of their tradition.

Dating with a named tradition

Two members may share the required Christian affirmation and still come from different churches. They may also share a church family and still need to talk about parish life, language, fasting, family, and where they hope to live.

Khuba does not promise a match across traditions or within one. It gives people a place to see the church family someone named, and to ask the questions that matter before a relationship goes further.

Photo review, blocking, and meeting safely are explained on Safety and Verification. To see what Khuba is as a dating community, read Middle Eastern Christian Dating.
